ARRL EME Contest, 2nd Leg - 12th & 13th
November
There was lots of activity, and some very big signals, but it was very difficult to find
stations that I had not already worked.
I was really pleased to have been able to collect 5 more initials - SP6JLW Initial #215 and new Country #40, DL4DTU Initial #216, JA4LJB Initial #217, HB9FX Initial #218 and RW3BP Initial #219... nice surprise Sergei and FB signal.
Gotaways - This time only PY5ZBU... called many times, should have been easy.
My final score was 84 x 41 = 344400 points... after rechecking my multipliers, maybe just enough for second place?
The majority of contacts were on CW with one or two on SSB, no JT65, and all contacts were unassisted.
My biggest "gripe" is that I never heard any of the stations that got away call CQ, they were always in QSO with someone else, and there were very few possibilities to "tail end".
The ARRL EME Contest usually creates lots of activity and is the catalyst for many new stations to try for their first EME QSO's. This year, the contest combined with the operation from W6IFE at OVRO produced an exceptional level of activity on 23cm with the leading station reporting over 100 QSO's.
Thanks to all who worked me during the contest, it was great fun.

ARRL EME Contest, 1st Leg - 22nd & 23rd
October
Activity was good and was helped by the presence of
W6IFE from the 130ft
dish at Owens Valley Radio Observatory
(OVRO) California.... they were a BIG signal even though they were running
relatively low power.
My score in the contest so far is 59 x 31, hopefully I can improve this further in the next leg.
