DUBUS REF EME Contest Report - 20 & 21 April 2002

Before the contest I tilted the dish over and checked things out around the feed and pre amp. I found that N connector on the input to the pre amp had been loosened by the constant battering from the wind over the last few months. This was quickly fixed and after checking the calibration of the tracking system all was ready for the contest.

During the contest all appeared to work well, and conditions seemed good for the whole weekend.

I believe that I almost managed to keep up with the big guns, and am hopeful of a good position in the contest.

My standings also improved by working JHØYSI and KL6M to: 168 Initials, 32 Countries, 6 Continents, 24 US States, 27 Large Grid Squares and 128 small Grid squares.

The weekend of 13 & 14 April

I was hoping to try JT44 this weekend, but decided against this for now. Reasons.... haven't had time to set up, my frequency calibration and stability are not good enough, couldn't get anyone to sked with, advised to trial it on tropo first, apathy after news about Galileo GPS invading 23cm...

Operating time was limited due to blockage to my east caused by the Circus being in town! and other commitments over the weekend.

Echoes and signal levels were good despite +2dB extra path loss and the new Moon on the 13th.
